AGB Juveniles
A.G.B. girls U8 and U10 teams travelled to Roundwood on May 5th. The U8 team played two matches and won both. The U10 girls fielded two teams. The first team played three matches and won two of the three. The next U10 girls team played three matches and they won two out of three as well. The three teams looked fantastic in their new strip sponsored by Phonelink Security. Thanks to Roundwood for a fabulous day.
The boys U8’s 9’s and 10’s had thier second outing in the Wicklow county blitz event in Annacurra. Yet again it was a great success, the skills on display where excellent from Annacurra, Coolkenno and AGB. We entered two teams and all players certainly had fun and enjoyment. The club would like to congratulate all the players taken part, each player got the opportunity to play in various positions throughout the three games and they all seemed to have 100% fun and enjoyment. AGB would also like to congratulate Annacurra on hosting a great day, they were asked last minute to host the day by ourselves and they pulled out all the stops. They most definitely have set a high standard for hosting such an event and the AGB club appreciate their corporation.
Training will resume next Wednesday at 6:30pm in Pease Park.
AGB second U12 girls team played their third match in the league in division 3 and came away with their first victory against Feargal Og. This was a very sporting encounter with both sides showing off some great skill and passages of play, however the Arklow girls proved too strong on this occasion with sterling performances throughout the team. Keep up the great work girls. All your hard work in training is paying off. Go AGB!
Hard luck to U14 Girls who lost out to St Pats in the Feile Final. It was a very closely contested game. The girls did themselves and the club proud with convincing wins in their group stages over Baltinglass, Bray, Cumann na Mara and Valleymount and an impressive win against Blessington in the semi final. However they were just short in the final. We wish the girls who got injured in the final a speedy recovery.
The u14 boys travelled to Carnew in the championship. Some exceptional football was played with Darragh Firzgerald and Jack Darcy outstanding in their new roles. Gary Fennelly starting in the full forward line showed that he has those sharp shooting boots ready for the big matches coming up at Feile. AGB won well on the night and the County U14 squad got an additional panellist with the Carnew goalkeeper having an exceptional game. Well done to all
Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney
Our Junior B’s narrowly retained their unbeaten record in the Division 4 East League on Thursday night after holding out for a one point win against a brave Rathnew side in Ballymoney. An early Stuart O’Neill goal helped open up an eight-point halftime lead for the home side which they carried through to the final quarter and looked like they were heading for a comfortable win. Rathnew, however, had other ideas and two late goals cut the lead to the narrowest of margins but they ran out of time before they could find an equaliser. Second half points from Ian Bracken and Karl Kirwan proved crucial as the home side held out for a hard fought victory. AGB 1-16 Rathnew 2-12
Next week’s fixtures see AGB travel away to face group leaders Barndarrig in a top of the table clash on Thursday evening at 7.15.

Senior Cup Match v St. Pats
The Senior ladies travelled to Wicklow town to play St. Pat’s in a Senior Cup match. There was a strong breeze blowing but aside from this some fairly unsettled conditions developed through the match with one red card being handed over to a St. Pat’s player toward the end of the game. It was a hotly contested game with the sides battling hard to retain possession. Kirsty Hughes stood out in the back line doing some excellent defending and saving a almost certain goal – certain but for the fact that Linda Dempsey had control of the posts. Midfield did trojan work and the scoreline is reflective of the pressure put on St. Pat’s by the forwards finishing with an end result of AGB 3-10 to St. Pat’s 1-10.
AGB U16,Minor, Junior, Senior Ladies & Girls/Ladies Coaches Team building day out in the Curragh coming up on the 17th June – army instructors will put together various assault courses and tasks to test our mental and physical strength! Cost is approx €15 per student, €20 per adult.
The Presentation night was a great success and special thanks go to Mick Healy and Harbour Bar for all the hard work done. Medals were presented on the night for Minor A Shield, Junior League and Junior Cup and Senior Cup. In addition to these special presentations were made to Amy Devereux and Catriona Byrne for their All Ireland achievement with the County Junior team and Niamh Arthur for her Minor Leinster achievement. Georgina Canavan won Minor Player of the Year and Lisa Mellon won Junior Player of the Year. Aine Byrne won Senior Player of the Year for a second year in a row! Paul Hurley was also presented with a gift from the ladies for his five years service to ladies football in which he brought many honours to the club. His time, commitment and hard work is appreciated by all involved with the ladies teams. Jerseys were also presented on the night to our U10 coaches from Sean Ni Choncuir (Phonelinks) and Dermot Ryan presented the U12 manager with a set of jerseys kindly sponsored by TRTV. Special thanks to Brian Brennan and Tommy Annsley for their sponsorship and time for the Minor girls this year.
Congratulations to John Connolly and Conall Carney on their wins in the County Draw this month. Congrats also to Helen Hurley and James Carolyn who were married recently. Great weekend had by all. We wish them the best for their future and in OZ and hope to see them back in Ireland soon.
