U16 Football: Our u16 footballers travelled to play Ashford last week in the league. I am glad to report that this team kept their unbeaten record intact by defeating Ashford. Despite our u16s claiming the two points, Ashford pushed us all the way in what was a very evenly contested game. We eventually won on a score line of Kilcoole 0-8 to Ashford’s 0-7. Kilcoole scorers were Lee Dutton 0-3, Cormac Byrne 0-3 and Kyle O’Reilly 0-2. The Kilcoole hero on the night was goalkeeper Josh Murray, who made a brilliant penalty save, when the game was at a crucial stage. Well done lads.

Intermediate Football:
Our Intermediate footballers played host to Aughrim last week in a Division 2 clash. Aughrim started the game better and we were slow to settle. We were rocked by an early, controversial Aughrim goal. At one stage we were 5 points behind. However a well taken goal from Ronan Keddy kept us in the game and we were only 1 point behind at half time 1-07 to 1-06. We looked a far more comfortable outfit in the second half. Full forward Danny Kavanagh was capitalising on any ball played in his direction and punishing Aughrim with some fine scores. With the game finely balanced and Aughrim winning by a point in the closing stages on the game, substitute Gerry Murray scored a great point for our equaliser. With time almost up, Matt Gilbert fired us ahead for the first time in the game. Thankfully we held on to our lead to win on a score line of Kilcoole 1-11 Aughrim 1-10. It was great to claim these two crucial points in the league after a hard fought encounter. Kilcoole scorers were Danny Kavanagh 0-6, Ronan Keddy 1-01, Vinny Quigley 0-1, Stephen “Coco” Coughlan 0-1, Gerry Murray 0-1 and Matt Gilbert 0-1.

Clean up of club grounds: As we host our Cúl Camp next week. It is a good time to do a clean up of the club site, to ensure a well presented and safe environment for the juvenile players. We invite players, parents, coaches and anyone who can lend some time to help with general clean up work this Saturday 21st July from 10am to 12pm. Some issues that will need to be addressed… the potholes in the car park, weeding, strimming of the area behind the goals. Many hands make light work. We want the club grounds to look their best, and we need your support. Please bring garden gloves, spade etc if possible.
