Kiltegan Club Notes

The  Junior Football team had a great win over Carnew Emmets in the play off at the South West Junior Football league in Arklow on Monday evening on a score line of 4-10 to 2-9.  We were a point behind at half time 1-6 to 1-5 and Carnew scored a goal early in the second half and went 4 points ahead.  This team showed their fighting spirit in the last quarter with only 14 players when one of four players received a red card but we went up a gear and out scored Carnew by a seven point margin with scores coming from Padraig Keogh 1-5, Nigel Nolan 0-1, Sean Bart Byrne 1-1, Mark Ryan 1-1, Brian Cullen 0-1.  We play Aughrim in the next play off match,  venue and date to be arranged.

The Junior A Football team lost by one point margin to Blessington in the Junior A Football Championship in Hollywood on Saturday evening.  Final score of 1-10 to 0-14.  After playing with the wind in the first half we only were one point ahead at half time but this team showed some great grit and kept in touch with the opposition throughout a very interesting  second half and were unlucky not to get a draw in the closing minutes.  Scores came from Darren Hobson 1-1, James Nailer Doyle who came on late in the first half 0-4, Johnny Keogh 0-2, Ray Kelly, Liam Kavanagh, PJ Daly 0-1 each.

The Senior Football team also suffered defeat in the  Senior Football championship when Newtown beat us on Sunday in Aughrim, score line 2-8 to 0-10.  Like the Junior team on ~Saturday evening we played with the wind in the first half on Sunday and were only two points ahead at half time 0-6 to 0-4, it was an up hill battle in the second half but we took the game to Newtown and were first to score but goals by Newtown won their match in the end.  Seanie Furlong 0-4, Rory Finn 0-3, Padraig Keogh 0-3. Its back to the hurling for most of these players on Friday evening when we play Avondale in the Senior Hurling Championship league.

The Club host the County Kelloggs GAA Cul Camps in Hurling and Camogie in the GAA pitch from Monday to Friday this week where it is hoped that lots of young players from the area will participate.  The Under 8 and 10 camogie teams took part on a blitz on Saturday in Aughrim, good day was had by all.

The Minor Football team had a good win over AGB in Kiltegan on Wednesday evening scoring 5-15.  A great display all round from this team and some great scores and brilliant defending.  In spite of picking up an injury early in the match, PJ Daly was our top scorer with 3-1,  Eoin Fitzgerald, Darragh O’Keeffe 0-2, Darren Nolan, Paul Murray and Luke Byrne 0-1 each.
