Wicklow and Wexford maybe from the sunny south east but Portarlington could have mistaken for Spain with sweltering heat and blue skies as the two teams took to the field, Wicklow were without midfielder Sarah Miley who suffered a injury against Longford last weekend.
Wicklow started off on fire and played lovely flowing football with passes being sprayed all over the field and Jackie Kinch being at the centre of every move, Wexford looked all over the place in the opening stages as Wicklow attacked in waves indeed hitting the woodwork on three occassions but there was one other obstacle Wicklow would have to over come and that was Wexford keeper Charlotte McCormack her resistance was broken when Wicklow were awarded a penalty which Shauna Richardson scored to give the girls in blue a nice lead.
Wicklow kept up the attacks and as half time approched were well on top if the result was to be in doubt the player of the match was never in doubt as Charlotte McCormack single handedly kept the Wicklow score at bay.
The Wicklow mentors must have dreaded the fact Wicklow had to take a half -time break because after a brilliant first half performance the girls fell apart Wexford had one goal chance in the first half which Amy Deveruex stopped at point blank range.
The Wexford girls hit the ground running in the second half and like Wicklow in the first began an onslaught on the Wicklow goal the Wexford defence tightened up a cut off all passes to the Wicklow forwards hard as they might try there was just no getting back into the game as Wexford scored three quick fire goals and turned the game completly on its head finishing 3-9 to 1-7.
